Curtis Strange students build Volume Zoo to master math concepts

Fifth grade students at Curtis Strange Elementary School put their creativity and math skills to work with an exciting hands-on project called Volume Zoo!

Students were challenged to design and build a three-dimensional animal using boxes shaped like rectangular prisms and cubes. After choosing an animal, students sketched their designs, collected boxes, and transformed everyday materials into creative animal sculptures.

But this project was about much more than arts and crafts! Students applied their knowledge of volume by measuring the length, width and height of each rectangular prism, calculating individual volumes, and finding the total volume of their animal creations in cubic units.

Volume Zoo proved that learning math can be creative, hands-on and WILDLY fun!
